University Place Neighborhood extends from the north side of 19th Street to the south side of KU’s main campus, and from the east side of Arkansas Street to the east side of Louisiana Street and Edgehill Road. UPNA was established in 1987 to benefit everyone who lives or owns property within these boundaries. With only 267 households, UPNA is the smallest of the 16 organized neighborhood associations in Lawrence. Nevertheless, over the past 20 years, UPNA has completed some pretty big projects, including obtaining funding to replace and repair many of our sidewalks, and making our streets safer by lowering the speed limit and installing stop signs. In addition to distributing a newsletter, UPNA holds two business meetings each year (one each in the fall and spring), several clean-ups of Veterans’ Park, and an annual picnic in the Park. We send a delegate to speak on behalf of our residents at the monthly meeting of the Lawrence Association of Neighborhoods; and, from time to time, UPNA members represent us to city and county government.
