I couldn't agree with the Krings more and i'm very glad that they are not bitter. We all choose to live here in Lawrence and it is, after all, a college town. That said I don't think that the problem is with "rental houses" directly. I feel that a lot of people can't afford to buy, and there are plenty of good renters.

I think the issues is more with 1.) Landlords that don't screen tenants at all (i.e. noise complaints can get you kicked out of an apartment but not a rental house) 2.) Landlords that don't maintain their properties to the same level as the other homes in the neighborhood 3.) The "bad eggs". I have known plenty of super nice students that were courteous while still being nuts and having a good time.

I don't mind the occasional beer bottle or chip wrapper in my yard. But the street looking like a beer truck crashed is terrible.

It seems like there is big roulette table spinning each August, and depending on the students, your neighbors will either be sweet & interesting kids or loud, screaming, inconsiderate jerks. A little music, a little fun, no problems, I remember college and i'm glad we live in a college town. I don't even mind the stereos every now and again. But the kids that stand on 18th and Ill. every Thursday night and have a screaming contest.... ugh.

I sure hope that your home sells to another nice family!

P.S. Anyone else in the neighborhood want better sidewalks?!
